Gaming Laptops: What to Look Out For

Gaming Laptop

If your old computer is starting to break down or is not providing enough for your newest games, it is probably giving you signs that you should be switching to a new one. If you’re a gamer who wants to play triple-A titles on the go, then a gaming laptop is the most ideal choice to provide the best visuals and speed for your gaming experience. However, not everyone is a tech guru and all the complex tech jargon does not make it easier for the layman to understand. There are many questions that one would need to ask when planning to get a new laptop.

Firstly, there are many different aspects and factors to consider and the type of laptop that you will get is dependent on what you will be using it for. For example, if you will be using it mainly for gaming, the speed of the computer would be important to ensure your computer does not lag while you are in a game. So take the time to think about what qualities you need in your system based on what you will be using it for. Here are some main points that you can look out for in your system.

Screen Quality

A good quality display is one of the most important features of the gaming experience. There is a wide range of computers with different sized displays. The newer computers reduce the size of the bezels to achieve a smaller frame of the computer. Other than the display of the computer, it is ideal to have a high display refresh rate so that the computer will be fast enough to match the speed of the computer. The good thing about having a high display rate is that it can display a higher number of frames per second (FPS). This allows the screen to load faster and offer a more smooth-going experience.

With that being said, it is important that your computer must be strong enough to support the high FPS and what determines this is how well the CPU can function, which can greatly affect the way you game. In addition, if you are considering using an external display such as a monitor, then the quality of the laptop’s display may not play such a crucial role after all.

Overall Features of the Computer

Other than the screen quality, it is also important to understand the other aspects of the computer such as its size, performance, and portability, where different computers have different focuses on each feature and would often have a trade-off of a lower power for better portability.

Firstly, it is important to consider the weight of the laptop. If you are planning to use your laptop for school work other than gaming, perhaps it would be better to get a lighter and more portable laptop than a heavy-duty one. However, heavier gaming laptops often have a larger number of connection ports such as for display and sound.

Secondly, while the material of the laptop does not play a huge role in its function, it serves an aesthetic purpose for a more sleek and luxurious gaming experience. Older laptops are made of plastic coatings, whereas newer designs allow for aluminum material which gives the laptop more durability and a more luxurious feel.

Thirdly, the keyboard input on the laptop. Most gamers prefer the traditional keyboards which give them a more sturdy feel as they game compared to the flatter and more silent keyboards which provides less satisfaction with quieter taps of the boards. Some additional features include the availability of the in-built camera and its specs, as well as the sensitivity of the touchpads. Some gamers also prefer keyboards which are able to light up into different colors for an even more enhanced gaming experience.

Next, one of the most important systems required for professional gaming is the presence of a good cooling system which is vital to prevent the computer from overheating to extend the life of the computer. An excellent cooling system can also help to prevent the drop in the performance of the computer. In general, bigger laptops are able to contain better cooling systems to prevent the laptop from going into overdrive.

Now, it’s time to get into the more technical aspect of computers. A good CPU is important to allow for better performance of the computer and its a crucial part of the computer as it can affect even your battery life and the FPS during gaming. In addition, if you are looking to go into streaming your plays online or recording your games, a good CPU is even more important in order to maintain the quality of the computer’s performance while gaming and recording at the same time.

Another important component to take note of is the RAM. In general, 8 GB RAM is the basic needed for a laptop used for gaming, but as laptops become more high quality with better systems, 16 GB has been more popular, allowing it to support the operations better. Furthermore, one should also look into the storage space of the device. As storage systems are constantly being improved on, consult for assistance regarding the newest and largest storage space available. For now, the SSD is one of the best in the market for storing games and other files such as media. A large capacity of 256 GB should be sufficient for storing a good amount of information and files on the device.

As such, there are many things to look out for before getting a new laptop. You should try to read up on the different available gaming laptops in the market to make some comparisons across the different brands to see what the different laptops can offer to you. Use the points above to make the comparison so you know which important features to focus on to decide which aspects are more important for your usage of the computer.
