People are using cell phones to search the internet, listen to music stored on the phone or to listen to the radio. Mobile phones are used to perform online transactions, watch movies, track fitness goals, and much more.

With all of these uses, it is no wonder that many people are spending most of their day on their cell phones. Phones have brought a lot of convenience to our lives. If you want to speak to a friend you haven’t seen in awhile, all you have to do is send them a text message. Buying an item has become easier. Just text the seller and you will get the information you need to make a purchase. All of these are benefits associated with texting. But it also has a bad side to it. Below are some of the reasons why texting too much isn’t such a good idea.

1. Health Issues and Well Being

Spending hours texting has been known to cause health-related issues. Cell phones radiate emissions which have been known to cause skin conditions and even certain cancers. Some studies show that these radiations cause sleep disorders in teens that spend many hours on their phones. People waste hour’s texting at night which could be spent sleeping. Others get pain on their thumbs and irritation of the eyes from constantly looking at their phone screens.

People who are addicted to texting are always waiting for a response from the person they are texting. What this means is that it is hard to concentrate on another activity. For instance, you find people texting when they are in a class which takes away their concentration from the lecturer and what he is teaching. The effect of this is poor grades at the end of the semester.

When you are used to texting, you walk around with your phone everywhere you go. Most men put their phones in their pockets which can lead to male infertility.

2. Driving

It is often said that you should not drink and drive. Another important thing that people should avoid doing is texting while driving. There are enough stories of people who have been involved in serious accidents and even others who died because they were texting while driving.

When driving, it is important to have your full undivided attention on the road. Anything could happen in a split second. The minute you take your eyes off the road to read and respond to a text could be the reason you are involved in a grisly road accident.

You need some willpower to ignore a text message and read it later once you hear it buzz on your phone. However, to avoid injuring yourself and other motorists, you should avoid texting while driving.

3. Walking

Have you ever bumped into someone who wasn’t paying attention while you were walking down the street? It is so annoying. The same thing applies to when you are walking and texting. Your mind is so focused on the message you are reading until you don’t consider the people in front of you.

A pedestrian should not walk and text. This is because they could end up crossing the road aimlessly without paying attention to the oncoming cars and get involved in an accident.
